The CU-TEP exam consists of listening, reading, and writing sections, with a total score of 120 points. Starting from November 24th, 2013, CU-TEP+Speaking was introduced for the afternoon session of the exam (which takes place around 6 times a year, with 6 sessions including Speaking). This new section is adapted from the TOEIC and TOEFL exams and is computerized. Unlike the IELTS exam which includes a speaking test involving a real person.
The CU-TEP (Chulalongkorn University Test of English Proficiency) scores can be used for undergraduate, graduate, and international programs at Chulalongkorn University, including those taught in Thai. In addition, some international programs at other universities may also accept CU-TEP scores for admission.
CU-TEP exams are organized by the Academic Testing Center at Chulalongkorn University and can be registered for online for a fee of 900 baht. There is an additional fee of 2,000 baht for those who wish to take the Speaking section. The Speaking section is only offered six times a year and requires an additional fee paid to specific bank branches. Test-takers must bring identification documents such as a Thai national ID card or passport on the exam day. Test results will be released on the website within two weeks, and the score report will be sent via mail within three weeks after the test date.
The CU-TEP exam is offered approximately 14-16 times per year, although in 2014 there were 18 test sessions. As of early 2017, there were 14 exam sessions available.
