What is IB?’

IB is an educational program that is equivalent to the upper secondary grade level and is widely accepted by schools and universities worldwide. In Thailand, there are numerous international schools that follow the IB diploma curriculum system.

The IB program, also known as the International Baccalaureate Program, is an educational program that is equivalent to the upper secondary level and prepares students for university. The IB program was developed by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) and is not an education system of any particular country, but rather a curriculum that can be adapted to different education systems around the world. The IB diploma curriculum is widely accepted by schools and universities and is known for its high quality and rigorous standards. Additionally, the curriculum’s global nature allows students to easily transfer between schools and countries. There are various international schools in Thailand that adopt the IB diploma curriculum, and only students studying in schools using the IB program can take the IB exam. Home-schooled students cannot take the IB program.

There are three levels of the IB program – the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 3 to 12, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for students aged 16 to 19. In daily conversations, the term ‘IB’ often refers to the Diploma Programme (IBDP), which is the most well-known and widely recognized level of the program.

The IB exam is held twice a year worldwide, in May and November. The maximum score for the IB Diploma Programme is 45 points, which is divided into 1-7 points per subject (total 42 points), and an additional 3 points from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge components.
